Our Mission
In a world of crowded lobbies and anonymous opponents, we wanted to bring chess back to its roots: a thoughtful game played between friends. Private Chess was created for one simple reason to provide a clean, elegant, and private space for you to challenge your friends, and no one else.
There are no public leaderboards, no random matchmaking, and no distractions. Just a simple link to share with a friend for a real-time game of chess.
How It Works
Playing a game is as simple as it gets. After logging in, you can start a new game, which generates a unique, private game link. Share this link with the friend you want to play against. When they join, the match begins instantly. It's the digital equivalent of setting up a chessboard in your living room. If you leave on the option for spectators, anyone who has an account and is given the link will be able to watch you play the game live.
Freestyle Chess
Ready to break from tradition? Our Freestyle Chess option lets you rewrite the playbook. When you start a new game, you can enable this mode to shuffle the back rank, just like the Bobby Fischer variation. All the standard rules of chess apply, but the starting position of the back row changes. This is your chance to challenge conventional wisdom and dive into a fun, unpredictable match where every game is a new adventure.
